The Imperial and Royal Navy (in German Kaiserliche und Königliche Kriegsmarine or k. u. k. Kriegsmarine, possibly Österreichische Marine) is the navy of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, which was established at the same time as the Monarchy itself, in 1867. It did not represent a significant force until the beginning of the 20th century, but then the Monarchy began to develop it vigorously. It reached its peak during the First World War, when it became the sixth largest fleet in the world. It existed in this form until 1918.
